Applies to components of battery operated vehicles (trucks and tractors) for use in Class I Zone 1 Hazardous Locations. Vehicles covered by this specification incorporate a storage battery, which may be of the lead-acid or the alkaline type, as the source of power, and may be all-electric or electro-hydraulic in operation. This specification prescribes requirements for the electrical components and those mechanical or hydraulic components which may be capable of producing arcs, sparks, or hot surfaces that will present a fire or explosion hazard in the presence of flammable gases or vapours. It also prescribes the tests to which certain components will be subjected to establish their compliance with this specification. Hazards other than ignition of gases or vapours are excluded from this specification.
