Definitions, composition of the toothpaste, pH value, abrasive properties, consistency and physical stability are specified. Packaging and marking requirements for the primary container and unit pack are laid down. Appendices include an interim list of allowable substances in toothpastes, methods for determining abrasivity and soluble fluorine derivatives and total fluorine derivatives in toothpaste.
