Preface:

This is the first edition of one of a series of Standards covering requirements for safe operation, acceptable performance, design, construction, manufacture, marking, and testing of oil burning equipment.

Nothing in these requirements is to be considered in any way as indicating a measure of quality beyond compliance with the provisions they contain.

Safe and satisfactory operation of oil burning equipment depends to a great extent upon its proper installation. To assure satisfactory and safe operation, equipment complying with the requirements of this Standard should be installed in accordance with the latest issue of CSA Standard B139, Installation Code for Oil Burning Equipment.

Appendices and footnotes appearing in CSA Standards are not considered part of the requirements of the Standards but are included to facilitate their use.

This Standard was prepared by the Committee on Oil Burning Equipment under the jurisdiction of the Sectional Committee on Oil Burning Equipment and was formally approved by these Committees and the CSA Technical Council.

Scope:

1.1
This Standard applies to portable industrial oil-fired heaters irrespective of the heating capacity, the type of burner or the motive power.

1.2
The requirements given herein apply to units which may be indirect-fired or direct-fired, vented or unvented, and which may be used with or without duct work.

1.3
The requirements given herein apply to direct-fired or indirect-fired heaters intended for space-heating of buildings under construction and for spot heating; to flue connected indirect-fired heaters intended for temporary space heating of completed buildings, when the products of combustion are discharged outdoors.

1.4
The requirements given herein may also be applied to such equipment as crop dryers.

1.5
A heater which differs from that contemplated by this Standard may be examined and tested according to the intent of the Standard.

1.6
A heater which meets each separate requirement of the Standard, will not comply with the Standard as a whole if it has other features which, when examined and tested, are found to impair the intent of the Standard.
