1. Scope

Section A - Transformers for Luminous-Tube Signs

A1.1

This section applies to transformers for luminous-tube signs of portable and stationary types, for potentials up to and includ ing 600 volts low-potential, and l5,000 volts open-circuit high-potential, designed to be employed in accordance with the rules of the Canadian Electrical Code, Part I.

It includes: (a) outdoor types - Enclosed , non-weatherproof construction intended for use within the enclosures of signs; (b) indoor types:,, (i) enclosed , including pendent-type transformers (and ""standing-type"" transformers); and,, (ii) open or skeleton-type transformers; and (c) reactors, if supplied as part of a transformer. Having sealed-in (ie, compound-sealed) windings.

Transformers covered by this Section for use as auxiliary equ ipment for signs used for general advertising and display purposes. /

Section B - Transformers for Oil- or Gas-Burner Ignition Equipment

B1.1

This Section applies to transformers for oil- and gas- burner ignition equipment for potentials up to and including 600 volts low-potential, and 15,000 volts open-circuit high- potential, designed to be employed in accordance with the rules of t he Canadian Electrical Code, Part I. Note: The terms ""low-potential"" and ""high-potential"" are used herein, respectively, for ""primary"" or ""low-voltage"", and ""secondary"" or ""high-voltage"".

B1.2

Transformers covered by this Section are intended for use as auxiliary equipment for oil- and gas-burning apparatus. /

Section C - Transformers for Cold-Cathode Interior Lighting

C1.1

This Section applies to transformers for cold-cathode, high-voltage, luminous tubing, for potentials up to and including 600 volts low-potential and 15,000 volts open-circuit high-potential, designed to be employed in accordance with the rules of the Canadian Electrical Code, Part I. Note: The terms ""low-potential"" and ""high-potential"" are used herein for ""primary"" or ""low-voltage"" and ""secondary"" or ""high- voltage"" respectively.

It includes: (a) (i) Enclosed transformers having sealed-in windings; and (ii) Open or skeleton-type transformers; and (b) Reactors, if supplied as part of a transformer.

C1.2

It does not apply to transformers for lighting systems under 1,0 00 volts.

C1.3

Transformers covered by this Specification are intended for use as auxiliary equipment for interior lighting.
