Scope

1.1 This Standard prescribes the minimum requirements for telecommunications premise wiring systems installed within the family units of a building that is used primarily for residential use (single-family, multi-occupant, or multi-unit).

The installation of the wiring is to be used in accordance with the Ru les of the Canadian Electrical Code, Part I.

The wiring system is to be used for new construction and major renovations or additions to a building.

1.2 This Standard also prescribes specifications for the telecomm unications wiring from the network interface jack (demarcation point) up to and including the telecommunications outlets/connectors on the owner/customer premises.

1.3

Limitations

1.3.1 This Standard does not prescribe the technical requirements for associated pathways, grounding, and bonding and the administration thereof.

1.3.2 This Standard does not prescribe the wiring requirements for commercial buildings, which can be designed based on the requirements in the companion Standard CAN/CSA-T529.

1.3.3 At this time the Standard does not cover further grades of wiring for new technology or (a),,backbone cable systems; (b),,coaxial cable distribution service; (c),,optical fibre distribution in the home; (d),,carrier distribution system over ac power lines; and (e),,home control/automation system.

1.3.4 This Standard does not prescribe the requirements for the drop or buried service wire to the building, which is assumed to be 22 AWG or larger and provided by the carrier.

1.3.5 This Standard does not prescribe the requirements for user safety.
