Preface:

This is the fourth consolidated edition of the CSA Z240 RV Series of Standards, Recreational vehicles. It supersedes the previous editions published in 2008, 1999, and 1986.

The majority of changes in this edition are due to the continuing efforts to synchronize the requirements for recreational vehicles in Canada and the United States of America.

Significant changes since the previous edition include the following:

a) In CSA Z240.0.2, General requirements for recreational vehicles (previously published under the title Definitions and general safety requirements for recreational vehicles):
i) the definition of "recreational vehicle" has been changed, as well as re-naming "folding camping trailers" and "truck campers";
ii) the maximum length of a travel trailer has been clarified;
iii) references have been updated;
iv) Clause 5.8 has been updated to mirror the changes to NFPA 1192; and
v) a number of warning labels have been harmonized with NFPA 1192.

b) In CSA Z240.1.2, Vehicular requirements for recreational vehicles:
i) the scope of Clause 5 now includes cables;
ii) the tongue load requirement has been removed and a note added;
iii) requirements for safety glazing materials have been clarified;
iv) a new requirement for pre-shipment checks; and
v) requirements for body work and GVWR have been removed.

c) In CSA Z240.3.2, Plumbing requirements for recreational vehicles:
i) the requirement for floor area under a water closet has been removed;
ii) a new requirement has been added for glazing of shower doors and enclosures;
iii) the requirement for road damage has been modified to remove numerical values, and a figure has been added;
iv) changes to the venting requirements; and
v) new requirements have been added for the water distribution, drain waste, and shower stall tests.

d) In CSA Z240.4.2, Installation requirements for propane appliances and equipment in recreational vehicles:
i) a new requirement has been added for maximum container capacities;
ii) new requirements have been added for regulators;
iii) restrictions for branch outlet joints have been removed; and
iv) a number of warning labels have been harmonized with NFPA 1192.

e) In CSA Z240.6.2/C22.2 No. 148, Electrical requirements for recreational vehicles:
i) the requirements for placement of panelboard have been clarified; and
ii) the requirements for receptacles in cupboards or cabinets have been removed.

Z240.0.2-14 - General requirements for recreational vehicles

Scope:

1.1
This Standard specifies dimensional and safety requirements for recreational vehicles. Its purpose is to specify minimum criteria for providing a degree of protection against loss of life from fire and explosion.

1.2
The CSA Z240 RV Series of Standards does not apply to park model trailers. Note: Park model trailers are covered by the CAN/CSA-Z241 Series of Standards.

The values given in SI (metric) units are the standard. The values given in parentheses are for information only.

In this Standard, "shall" is used to express a requirement, i.e., a provision that the user is obliged to satisfy in order to comply with the standard; "should" is used to express a recommendation or that which is advised but not required; and "may" is used to express an option or that which is permissible within the limits of the Standard. Notes accompanying clauses do not include requirements or alternative requirements; the purpose of a note accompanying a clause is to separate from the text explanatory or informative material. Notes to tables and figures are considered part of the table or figure and may be written as requirements. Z240.1.2-14 - Vehicular requirements for recreational vehicles

Scope:

1.1
This Standard specifies vehicular requirements for recreational vehicles, except motor homes, and covers couplings, tongues, and A-frames, lighting (for truck campers only), glazing materials, and running gear.

1.2
This Standard includes performance tests for the following:
a) coupling strength;
b) photometric and mechanical performance of lighting equipment;
c) optical and strength properties of glazing material; and
d) service brake performance.

1.3
Cargo transportation space that is an integral part of a recreational vehicle and intended for transporting or storing livestock, vehicles (including motorcycles), snow machines, or watercraft is not prohibited by this Standard.

1.4
