In 2018, NEMA launched the IoTNOW webinar series as part of its Strategic Initiatives Program. The series addresses the challenges and opportunities posed by increased connectivity and automation in the workplace, in the electric grid, and in smart cities.

Direct current (DC) microgrids are the most efficient way to use DC electricity from on-site power generation, such as photovoltaic and fuel-cell power. Many building technologies use DC-from electronics to lighting. DC microgrids can improve buildings' resiliency to utility power loss. DC microgrids lend themselves to the integration of battery storage, making it easier to add emergency and backup power functions.
