The objective of this technical committee report is to provide an overview of thermoplastic liners used in oilfield pipelines, and to reflect current practices. This report is intended to assist those who are considering the use of liners, but have only limited access to resources with knowledge of the terminology, techniques, and applications of liners in the oilfield. This report does not endorse any specific system or indicate that any of the liner systems described is suitable for particular applications. It is not the intent of this report to restrict the use of any liner material but to describe materials and systems currently in use. Specific material properties are beyond the scope of this technical report, as are specific liner design methodologies. Suppliers of the materials can normally provide the specific mechanical and chemical information needed by a potential user, and installers normally provide design services based on regional experience and normal industry-accepted practices. Evaluation by the potential user of a particular application in conjunction with the system manufacturer is vital to ensuring proper material and liner system selection. In this report, the words plastic and polymer are used interchangeably.
