These requirements cover the investigation of air leakage through door assemblies installed in wall openings where air leakage is intended to be controlled.

The purpose of the test is to determine only the resistance of a door assembly, in the closed position, to air leakage resulting from a specified air pressure difference applied across the surface of the entire door assembly.

These requirements apply to complete door assemblies or to gasketing systems intended for use with specific door assemblies.

The test method includes air leakage tests and cycling tests to determine the rate of air leakage through a door assembly in an as-installed condition.

The results obtained by use of this test method are expressed in cubic feet per minute per square feet (m3/s per m2) of door opening and are intended to develop data to assist authorities having jurisdiction, and others, in determining acceptability of a door assembly or gasketing system with reference to control of air movement through an assembly.

A door assembly or gasketing system investigated by this test method is intended for installation and use in accordance with the NFPA Recommended Practice for the Installation of Smoke- and Draft-Control Door Assemblies, NFPA 105.

A product that contains features, characteristics, components, materials, or systems new or different from those covered by the requirements in this standard, and that involves a risk of fire or of electric shock or injury to persons shall be evaluated using appropriate additional component and end-product requirements to maintain the level of safety as originally anticipated by the intent of this standard. A product whose features, characteristics, components, materials, or systems conflict with specific requirements or provisions of this standard does not comply with this standard. Revision of requirements shall be proposed and adopted in conformance with the methods employed for development, revision, and implementation of this standard.
