These requirements cover primary carrier and secondary containment nonmetallic pipe and fittings (piping ) intended for use underground in the di stribution of petroleum-base flammable and combustible liquids, alcohols, and alcohol-blended fuels. Unless otherwise stated, requirements apply to both primary carrier and secondary containment pipe and fittings.

The piping covered by these requirements is intended to be install ed and used in accordance with the Flammable and Combustible Liquids Code, NFPA 30 and the Standard for Automotive and Marine Service Station Code, NFPA 30A.

In applying these requirements to flexible piping, a separate examination and unique tests are needed to determine whether the piping is appropriate for that purpose.

A product that contains features, characteristics, components, materials, or systems new or different from those in use when the Standard was developed, and that involves a risk of fire, electric shock, or injury to persons, shall be evaluated using the appropriate additional component and end-product requirements as determined necessary to mai ntain the level of safety for the user of the product as originally anticipated by the intent of this Standard.
